To start playing the trumpet you first need to learn the fingerings of the notes. Here is a fingering chart to start

The key for making sound come out of a trumpet is all in the buzzing of the lips. To produce a good buzz keep your teeth slightly
apart, and have your lips so they are touching. Position your lips as if you were saying the "M" in mother, and then just blow to make your lips buzz. Grab your mouthpiece and give it a try. After you have a good buzz you might be ready to grab your horn.
Here is a simple scale that you can try out.
After you have a decent sounding scale, you might be ready to try something a little harder.
