Classroom Expectations
Daily Meeting Area: Locker Room Hallway
Instructional Philosophy:
Students will be provided with the necessary training for each specific exercise so the exercise process can be safe and productive. Students will be trained on safety procedures as well as organizational procedures for the weight room. Students are encouraged to have a positive attitude with themselves and the progress of others throughout the duration of this course to maintain a productive training atmosphere. Students must recognize there will be beginners, novice, and advanced lifters partaking in this course. Safety will be the first priority in every aspect of this class.
Class Objective:
- Students will improve their muscle strength and endurance through weight training exercises throughout the semester.
- Students will gain knowledge of equipment and safety procedures with free weights, machine weights, and cardiovascular endurance equipment.
- Students will recognize the benefits of regular physical activity and see firsthand the effects on themselves through class participation.
- Students will gain knowledge to develop their own personal weight-training program and training principles.
- Students will gain knowledge of basic nutrition and eating habits to supplement a proper regimen of physical activity.
Proper Dress Code:
Students are required to dress appropriately for physical activities each day. Shorts/sweatpants, T-shirts (short or long sleeved), and tennis shoes are all necessary for participation. No inappropriate clothing will be allowed (see Seward High School handbook.)
No jewelry should be worn during class since it can pose a safety hazard.
Locker Assignments:
You will be given a locker assignment for the semester. Please take care of your locker! Do not leave it unlocked for any reason. Put valuable items in your locker during class time as Seward High School is not liable for any stolen items during class. Do not give anyone your combination. It is your responsibility to keep your things safe and locked up.
Class Expectations:
- Students will be given 5 minutes to change before class and 10 minutes before the end of class to shower and change. If students are taking an excessive amount of time to change they will be counted as tardy. If there is an exception needed for more time to shower and change, the instructor can write a note for a hall pass.
- Students will follow the warm up routine which will be led by the teacher or selected students throughout the semester prior to entering the weight room.
- Students will have partners throughout the semester to help with the activities and “spot” their partner.
- All students will remain in the weight room until they are dismissed or given permission to leave temporarily.
- Any injuries or emergencies must be reported to the teacher during the class period so the proper action can be taken.
- Directions given by the teacher must be followed the first time they are given.
- Obscene language, gestures, harassment, or disrespect will not be tolerated. Music played in the weight room will be at the teacher’s discretion and will be free from obscene language as well.
Participations:
It is expected that students will participate in the activities for the class. Any exception to this will be handled on an individual basis and accommodations will be made for all students to participate in physical activity during the class time. If students to not bring the proper clothing to participate then they will be given a poor participation and dress grade as attire must be as specified to properly participate in the activities. Students that are absent to class or do not have proper clothing to participate will be given an opportunity to make up the grade with research and written work in regards to health, physical fitness, and/or nutrition at the instructor’s discretion.
If students have a medical issue or incident that prevents them from participating in the physical activity of the course then they must provide the instructor with a descriptive, written note from their doctor which explains the situation. The description will need to explain what the student can and cannot do.
