Seward County Courthouse
Chimes & Clock

The four clocks on the Seward County Courthouse tower don't match.
Each one is five minutes different from the neighboring clock face.
Each Roman numeral on each clock face is missing pieces.
The pendulum and clock gears, kept under heat lamps in a little room in the tower, do not work.
Seward's 20-note chime system was one of only four municipal systems in the world.
The other three are a 32-note system in Pretoria City Hall, South Africa,
a 10-note system in
Asheville City Hall, North Carolina, and a 16-note system in Sacramento Memorial Auditorium, California.
The clocks were installed in 1909 and the chimes in 1933.
