Staplehurst Livestock 4-H Club

Staplehurst Livestock 4-H Club is the oldest 4-H club in the state of Nebraska starting their 84th year in 2007-08. In 2005, their club donated a gazebo to be permenently placed on the Seward County Fairgrounds in memory of their leader of 61 years, Raphael Dobesh.

Gazebo

This 48 member club specializes in large and small animals but members also enroll in several other projects including foods, photography, woodworking and home environment projects. Club projects include floriculture, where they plant and maintain the flowers and shrubs surrounding the gazebo throughout the year, and fishing, where they hold their annual 4-H Fishing Contest at the City Park pond.

They follow the 20/20/20 guidelines for meetings: They have 20 minutes of team building and/or fun, 20 minutes of a business meeting, and 20 minutes of learning. All officers and new officers are voted on every January.

Community Service Projects are a requirement and include:

  • Adopt-a-Highway (twice a year)
  • Adopt-a-Family at Christmas
  • Seward Calf Classic
  • Annual 4-H Fishing Contest
  • Working gate admission at the Annual Country Christmas Light Display at the City Park
  • Pop Tab Collection for Ronald McDonald House
